Chronic diseases, swine flu, avian flu and global warming. Probably, these issues have gained the greatest global concern and fear ever in human history. Its definite force of massive destruction is real, inconvenient and menacing from moment to moment. But, to those advocating vegetarian lifestyles, the issue is fundamental. It is not the fear. It is the urging necessity to promote a change in human lifestyles, a situation explicitly conjured by Albert Einstein over half a century ago...
Our Planet Is At A Crossroads
The good news is that, partly through the efforts of the member organizations of the International Vegetarian Union, more and more people are turning away from meat, and plant-based foods are becoming more readily available. Unfortunately, at the same time, worldwide meat consumption continues to rise.
Vegetarian activists from around the world will together in Indonesia from October 01-07th, 2010. We will be meeting at a time when our planet is at a crossroads...

As President of Indonesia Vegetarian Society (IVS), it brings me great pleasure that our country will have the opportunity to host the 39th IVU World Vegetarian Congress in 2010. Enthused and motivated, our team has already begun the planning and preparation for the upcoming congress in Jakarta & Bali, and we are all very hopeful of the event’s success.
As always, we are confident that IVS events such as the 39th IVU World Vegetarian Congress will fruitfully increase global awareness on the multifaceted benefits reaped from a vegetarian lifestyle...

Officially listed as a member of the International Vegetarian Union just a couple of months after its birth in 8 August 1998, the Indonesia Vegetarian Society has ever since shown its strong commitment to promoting vegetarianism both locally and internationally for the reasons of health, environment, animal welfare and nature's harmony. Now, it is estimated there are 80,000 members under its 50 branches across the country.
